Exploring Fowey

Fowey has been a strategically important deep water harbour for centuries and thus has a rich maritime history. Still a working port, you may see the Fowey Lifeboat or tankers and cruise ships coming and going as well as a multitude of leisure boats and dinghies racing in the harbour.  Our guests say that watching the boats on the water from the large sunny balcony is a full-time activity in itself!  Local and national sailing regattas take place regularly throughout the summer.

Should you wish to venture onto the water, boat and fishing trips, rib rides and kayak hire are all available in town in season, or take the ferry across the harbour to the charming fishing village of Polruan.

Fowey is close to some of Cornwall's most stunning gardens including The Eden Project , Landydrock  and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. And of course, the area has a wealth of beautiful coastal walks, small coves and beaches to explore.

Alternatively, you may just choose to browse some of the individual shops and many galleries in town for gifts, souvenirs and home décor that you simply will not find anywhere else.

The town has many cafes, historic pubs and wonderful restaurants serving fresh seafood and local cuisine.

A more detailed list of activities, boat hire, suggested restaurants compiled by the owners of Tide House can be found here.
